International specialist in intellectual property rights strengthens with Swedish acquisition
The international IP agency Rouse, a leader in the field of intellectual property rights, today announced that they were acquiring the Swedish innovation law firm, IPQ. Rouse has a long history as a prominent IP specialist in emerging markets, not least in China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The acquisition of IPQ is the first to be carried out in Europe.
The international IP agency Rouse based in England has a strong international presence. Not least in Asia where Rouse has established offices in China and the rest of Southeast Asia for more than thirty years.
Here, Rouse supports many international companies operating in Asia, including Bayer, New Balance and Universal Studios with the protection of trademark, product and service rights.
Over the past ten years, Rau’s advice has become increasingly important to large Asian customers such as Beijing Mobike Technology. It is against this background that you should see Rouse’s acquisition of the Swedish innovation law specialist IPQ. This also gives IPQ’s customers access to the highest quality support and IP service in Asia.
Through the acquisition, Rouse will be able to offer solutions for sectors that risk being hit hard when modern technology challenges established business models. Thus, Rouse can consolidate its position as a leading provider of global commercial IP strategy and advisory services.
IPQ’s operations with 17 consultants in Stockholm will be operated under the name Rouse AB. The partners Thomas Randes, Michael Kitzler and Erik Oskarsson will become Rouse Principals, which is equivalent to Rouse’s existing partners.
Adds specialist expertise
In addition to assignments for high-profile brands such as H&M, Epiroc, Episurf and Flir, IPQ also works with a large number of fast-growing companies, which have in common that they perceive how the established business models are challenged by pioneering technologies such as digitization, AI and IoT. This is specifically about open and closed technologies.
With the specialist expertise provided by IPQ, Rouse will now be able to offer these, as well as other existing and new customers, innovative IP consulting services via the company’s network of offices in 14 countries.
Rouse and IPQ already have a well-developed and successful collaboration. The two companies have carried out joint projects focusing on IP consulting services and with Rouse’s trademark, patent and legal services.
– The acquisition is an exciting and natural next step in Rouse’s continued growth. IPQ has well-established specialist knowledge that helps companies maximize the utilization and management of their IP, says Luke Minford, CEO, Rouse.
– There are enormous opportunities for us to offer this expertise to our global customer base, not least in China and other emerging markets, where there is an increasing demand for IP consulting services from domestic customers.
Value at rest
Luke Minford notes that clients in these markets are looking for new ways of growth and believe that they will increasingly understand how intelligent IP strategy can unlock the unused value that lies in a company.
– Here, IPQ will with its specialist expertise be crucial to further strengthen Rau’s ability to help customers on that journey, he says.
– We are pleased to now be part of Rouse, says Thomas Randes, CEO, IPQ. In addition to our cultural and commercial compatibility, we share a fundamental vision of the role that IP can and should play to help our customers achieve new growth, not least in sectors where established thinking is radically disrupted by new technology. Sweden is too small for many of our Swedish customers. We must better be able to help those where the world grows.
The acquisition follows three years of strong organic growth and increased profitability for Rouse. The company has also recently taken a strategic stake in Inngot. It is an innovative web-based platform that specializes in the identification and valuation of intangible assets through which Rouse UAE Dubai / United Arab Emirates has already launched a new online tool aimed at SMEs in the region. Entry allows finding and valuing hidden assets.
